The fortifications comprise three encircling walls with bastions. Mohammed Bin Tughluq,
the sultan of Delhi gave the name Daulatabad 'The city of fortune'. Series of trick
defence and secret escapes routes are the famous features of this fort.
Trekking to the Top of Daulatabad Fort
You will have to walk up 750 stairs which can take anywhere between 1-3 hours depending
on your speed.
There are many buses, cabs and autos are available from Aurangabad to
Daulatabad Fort. It takes 3 hours to visit major parts of the fort. There is lot of
walking/trekking inside the fort and is suitable for physically active visitors.
Timings: 9 AM to 6 PM
The fort have many specialities which makes it Invincible like No separate
exit from the fort, only one entrance/exit which was designed to confuse the enemy
soldiers to drive deep into the fort in search of an exit. Spikes on the gate so that
elephants gets injured in attempt to break the gates.
This was once called as Devgiri hill meaning 'God's hill. Daulatabad Fort, a rock-hewn
fortress is situated at a distance of about 15 Kms from Aurangabad City, on the way to
Ellora Caves. It is 600 feet high from the ground and has 750 steps.
